My favorite type of ice cream is mint and chocolate chip. A lot of people judge me but I think they are just not giving the flavor a chance. Some people say that it taste like tooth paste and they’re just wrong. People enjoy gum that taste like mint I don’t know why they don’t enjoy ice cream. I don’t even think the mint flavor is that strong. To me when I eat it, it just feels really refreshing the way it melts and leaves a cold refreshing minty sensation. Whenever me and someone are at the supermarket I have to try my hardest to convince them to give mint and chocolate chip a chance.
First time dirt biking
My dad, my sister, my girlfriend, and I went dirt bike riding for the first time since I was about 5. It was really fun to get on, and ride around. I got to watch my sister try and ride a dirt bike, it was just funny because she is clumsy and kept hitting bushes. My girlfriend was really struggling and wanted to give up trying to ride the dirt bikes, but I kept pushing her and eventually she got pretty good at it. I was really glad that she came, because I had to beg her that the opportunity doesn’t come up a lot.
favorite thing to do
My favorite thing to do would have to be vacationing. I like to go and explore new places. I’ve only been out of this country twice, and it was trips to Mexico. I hope to explore eastern countries eventually and learn about different cultures. It amazes me how big the world is, and how many places there are to visit. I think theres something like 200+ countries so to visit even a quarter of those would be awesome.
Where I’m from
I was raised in la puente. My parents let me start going out at a young age and gave me a lot of freedom. My dad taught me a lot of lessons in life, and so has my mom. I feel like they raised me to be very down to earth and humble. They taught me to not focus on what other people are doing and to focus on myself.
type of writer
I’m the type of writer that that needs peer review. I will overlook a lot of simple grammar mistakes. My worst enemy would probably have to be paragraph structure and commas. Also, when I read something of mine I’ll think it makes sense, but when someone else reads it they wont understand. One thing that really helps me also, is using grammarly, it’s an application that checks for grammar errors in your writing.
Reflection on academic journal
Seeing the pages all laid out makes it easier to see a pattern. It was still, however, difficult to see if it was divided by chapters or units. It had a lot of bold text but they weren’t clear about what’s that was a sub section to. I think it would be easier if they used a better header or indentation to show where the sub sections are. I also don’t know why they had to split each page into two sides. To me it became more confusing, and sort of wasted space.
The New Yorker cartoon
What does I’ll-informed mean?
What would happen if he didn’t watch television?
What show is he watching that is informing him?
Where do you become informed of things?
How has television affected our ability to learn things?
This cartoon is supposed to be funny because it is exaggerating how dumb we have become from watching tv. It’s kind of a play on the old watching television will fry your brain joke. I mean it is right about what it is saying about not becoming informed from TV, but it’s not like most people watch TV other than the news to be informed. Most people watch tv to be entertained.
What inspires me
What I would say inspires me the most is my parents. I really don’t want to let them down. It’s not like they are pressuring me to be super successful or anything, but I want to make them proud. I don’t want them to worry about whether or not I will struggle in life. I’d like to be able to show them that I can make it in the world on my own, and hopefully be able to help them do fun things, like vacation and go to other fun things. What also inspires me a lot is stories of people becoming successful that came from a struggle. As an example, in 8 mile he is dirt poor and has nothing in his life, but instead of becoming sad and giving up he becomes famous. There are a lot more examples of this that I’m not going to name, but when I see these stories it really inspires me. I know that if those people can do it then there is always a chance and to not give up.
How I’ve grown as a writer
I’ve grown a lot as a writer, and have gotten better at most of my weaknesses. At the beginning of this class I would struggle with things like, paragraph structures, punctuation, thesis, and just overall stating clear ideas.
Over the course of theses past few months my paragraph structures have improved. I’m better at organizing my thoughts into separate paragraphs. I’m also better at transitioning into the next paragraph.
My punctuation has been getting a lot better. I used to take commas for granted. I would keep my sentences short, and when they were long I would rarely use a comma. Now when I am writing, I know how to use two or even three commas in a sentence in order to keep it going.
Lastly, I am able to put my thesis together and make it clear for the reader what point I’m trying to make. Previously, I would struggle with coming up with a thesis, because it would be a very broad general statement, rather than a precise point that I can discuss.
Living with Nacirema
If I were to live with the Nacirema I would definitely be weary of the doctor. I don’t really believe in like voodoo stuff, so his practices would definitely not interest me. Most of what he does doesn’t even seem safe to me. Why would you stop at somebody’s cavities to extract demons? I would definitely question his actions, and I’m not sure how the tribe would react. I would feel the need to at least warn people that it is pseudoscience, or else I’d feel responsible watching people torture themselves.
